R.W.S. - 2005 Chrysler Dodge Caravan - Posted August 2007

I purchased a 2005 Chrysler Dodge Caravan.  I had lost confidence in Chrysler products a long time ago, but I gave them another chance because I work for a German supplier and had first hand experience at how the German’s stress “quality” in their parts.  I purchased the Caravan because of the style and needed a van.  Because I commute a long distance to work, I purchased the extended warranty which was the smartest thing I could do.  My car is only two years old and it has been in to the Chrysler dealer six times.  I have had my water pump replaced, a pipe under the car that is used in cooling.  Both tie rods in the front have been replaced twice.  I went on the internet to see who manufactures the tie rods and found a whole list of manufacturers in Taiwan.   We may be buying American assembled cars but all the parts are made in “China”.

J. B. - 2004 Jeep

I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that's a lease that was stickered at $33,000.

I had to get new rotors at 18,000 miles.  Now, at 29,800 miles guess what! I need new rotors AGAIN. Chrysler refuses to cover it under warranty even those there are pages, and pages, and pages about this problem on the internet and they know about the problem. I can't wait for this lease to be up.

Icing on the cake...my BRAND NEW CAR was RUSTING - that's right folks, RUSTING, at 15,000 miles, so I took it in to have the rusty parts replaced so my car didn't look ghetto and they scratched my car up - admitted to it - told me they would take care of it - threw some clear coat over the scratches and gave it back to me. They said they "couldn't fix the scratches because they would have to repaint the whole car". Unbelievable. This was a "5-Star Certified Dealer" best of the best right! BULLSHIT

Melinda - Missouri - 2006 PT Cruiser

In may 2006 I bought a fully loaded PT Cruiser, and since lost the oil in my engine not only once, but twice. Not to mention that I had a spark plug foul out between the two oil incidents. The second time my engine lost oil I demanded a thorough investigation of what the damage would be to my engine because I drove forever and the OIL LIGHT NEVER CAME ON!!! I had to go to a local store, buy oil so that I could drive my car to the dealership and then demand that they refund my cash for the oil. When I heard back from them I was told they were replacing the engine in my car and when I picked it up my service summary said "excessive play in crankshaft, replaced engine short block assembly." (Because the best possible solution is to replace only the bottom half of my engine, forget the rings and pistons, they don't mean anything). Then I have taken the car back three times for the belts squeaking and finally they told me even though they hear the noise from the engine, they cannot service my car until the check engine light comes on.

I demanded they buy my car back, emailed Chrysler once, didn't get a response, bombarded them with emails daily and still didn't get a response, called another dealership and finally got a phone number of a local representative who would "help" me in my situation, which has escalated so far for me to retain an attorney (which literally didn't help me at all) and am still trying to figure out my way out of this mess.

Chrysler is offering to replace my vehicle, but it will cost me an outrageous amount of money out of my pocket and my finance company won't extend my loan AND pay the difference in sales tax on the two vehicles. OR they will give me an extended warranty, OR make a car payment, OR install a new engine (how will that resolve anything if Chrysler has had an oil consumption problem with their engines since 2001?!?!?!). Of all the times I have taken my car in for service I have had a loaner car for about 30 days since I bought my car.

Missouri Lemon Law basically protects the manufacturer, not the consumer, I cannot demand that they repurchase the vehicle from me if they offer to replace the vehicle and I am not free to shop for a vehicle I would rather have. I am TRAPPED in this piece of crap with a whistling engine that can be heard from all directions and a halfway rebuilt motor. My car is sluggish, stalls out and NOT at all what I expected to pay $23,000 for. I am limited to picking a Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep product that matches the sticker price of my car, and have to pay Chrysler 20 cents a mile for the mileage I put on my car. I hate Chrysler and will never buy from this company again nor will I recommend my friends or family to buy from this company.

Jennifer - 1998 - Dodge Durango

I would like to give you a little insight on our situation. Last fall, I bought a 98' Dodge Durango. It was perfect, inspected it, took it for a test drive, it was in wonderful condition with service records and a newly overhauled transmission. I drive this car every day, put my kids in it, and take it to the mountains. Drive it in the snow, the rain, and the sun. 3 months ago, I could have bet you one of my children this car would get you from point A to point B without a problem. my significant other is an engineer and keeps close tabs on our vehicles. I am also a clever female who makes strong note of how things work and maintains my vehicles to be sure of no major issues. This being so...................here's where the trouble begins......

In June, a coil wire cracks, and the car needs a part that cost $40. No problem. The car has been my best friend!!!! So I think no big deal. take it to my local dealer to be sure the right parts get put into it by the right service dept., good call right? WRONG! with the coil wire, and all the RECOMMENDED services, I pay $600. Ok, fine. Better for the car to get the proper services by a proper dealer. The same day its done, I take it home, it stalls and I barely make it home. the dealership says its another issue, I have to have it brought in. My better half says no, we will fix it our selves. In the mean time after getting a transmission service done by the dealership, I, like normal, check the tranny fluid, dangerously low!!!! They just did a service, did they leave it out? Did they forget? So I monitor for 2 days, making sure I don’t have a leak. Nope, no leak. So a month later, its still having a problem, I leave to California for the third death this summer, and my better half is driving it home from my grandmothers memorial service when the transmission fails!!!!!! WHAT???? yes, it fails. Mind you it has a newly rebuilt tranny done by a specialist. So my better half gets it towed home. calls the dealership the next business day. They say they are sending someone right over to get it in to the shop. 3 days later a tow truck shows up. 3 days later? what happened to right away? guess they took a long lunch. So a week after its towed, they tell us, "well its your problem, we didn’t leave any fluid out. And if it was low, its YOUR fault, cause you’re a woman and you don’t know how to check it properly." WHAT? a woman, and that makes me ignorant? Ok, this is getting personal. So now, we have a problem. A car that was running fine, now needs a major overhaul. After talking with the service manager, he agrees to give us 50% off parts and labor, funny huh? Seem as though they are taking some blame? Yup! We go for the overhaul $2000. say ok, I guess. We don’t really have another option. The car is  broken, and now it needs to be fixed. So 3 weeks later, promise after promise of tomarrow it will be ready, they call me and say "come get your car, its done." How joyful I am to be getting my car back!!! It was only supposed to take a week, but since they gave us a deal, all the sudden we were low priority. Go figure.

So I go to pick up my car! I walk in, take my paperwork and my keys. They say "all ready, we test drove it, works great!"  Get in my car, start it up and go. Funny, it seems a little slow. I think to myself, ok, you haven't had it for over 4 weeks, might just need getting used to again. So I go home. almost home....wont shift, feels like im towing a boat! Something's wrong. very wrong. Im sure, even though To the DEALERSHIP im a woman, and ignorant when it comes to knowing if my car is acting odd, or how to maintain my vehicle. SO I open the hood, its HOT, hot to the touch, that never was like that before. So I call the dealer, they say "bring it back. we will give you a loaner." Ok. I take it back. scared im going to wreck. I get there, go inside, give them my keys and paper work. They give me a minivan, on empty. Fine, go put $30 in it. I get 4 miles out and it breaks down. call, go back, and they give me a Neon, on empty, wont give me my $30 I just put in the van. Fine, not really comparable to what I gave them, but ok. The next day, they call my better half and say "she's paranoid, there's nothing wrong with the car, come get it." He says, " if I come down there, there better not be anything wrong with the car!"  The dealership says, " no, nothing wrong, we drove it. And we don’t know what she's talking about." He goes down there, goes on a test drive, and sure enough, there's a problem. So the dealer tells us, it will have to wait until the tech comes in on Sat. ok, fine. Mind you, this transmission they just overhauled the same day, had a warranty. 1 yr, 12,000 miles by this dealership. On Sat. they call us, tell us it needs a valve body that’s going to cost $800. What happened to the warranty? gone? Doesn’t cover that. but its part of the transmission. nope, they say since they never touched it, its not covered. What did we pay for then? our car is still broken. They say its not their problem, and the part is back ordered. Ok, so what are our options? nothing. we pay the money, let it sit until the part comes in someday? wow! and they claim they are five star service.

We have researched this, and it’s a very common problem. we cant afford to get this repair that was supposed to be covered in the first place. Its like getting your kitchen remodeled. but after you pay, they never did the cabinets. And when you ask, they say they aren't part of the kitchen. go figure. What to do?

Can you shed some light on this? Daimler Chrysler customers are getting screwed. this is awful. I can count on 2 diff times that me being a woman, was the root of the problem in their opinion. And they made that very clear. I would love it for you to confront Daimler Chrysler in Monroe about their sexist, fraudulent, and Consumer robbing practices.

Dennis - 1995 Intrepid

My Dodge intrepid is a 1995, the car has been taken care of pretty darn well.  All good, name brand service parts, not cheap stuff and always on or ahead of shedule. Ill high-light the whole situation, intrepid es, with the performance handling package.  The car really is attractive, i love the body style and the features.  I just had the third transmission installed..... it was $2200.00, And now my second engine is making strange noises!!

The whole car is just falling apart..... Accompanied with horrible resale value and then what?

Mark - 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup

To: Daniel Youngkin on 3/18/05

Re: Warranty service on 04 Dodge Ram 1500 p/u

 Mr. Youngkin,

I purchased this new truck from your dealership in February 04. In February 05 I noticed power steering fluid on the power steering rack. I traced the leak back to it’s source at the junction of the rubber hose to the metal pipe leading into the p/s cooler. I considered replacing the hose clamp myself, but since the truck is under warranty I decided to bring it in for service.

I came in person and made an appointment for service on 2/11/05, during this time, I specifically explained where the power steering fluid was leaking from, so as to make the service technicians’ job easier. The gentleman scheduling the appointment needed my name and address even when given the VIN of the truck. Does this dealership keep records of the new vehicle VIN’s? Are they available to the service department? As I tried to drop the truck off the night before, the same gentleman was having some difficulty locating my appointment in your computer system.

After this repair I noticed that my address on the repair sheet was incorrect. I then crawled under the truck and noticed that the tech didn’t even wipe off the old fluid that had dripped onto the p/s rack.

About 2 weeks later I noticed fluid on the asphalt under my truck at the end of the day at work. The p/s fluid was leaking from the same place, so I scheduled another appointment for 3/11/05 and went through the address and phone number drill for the third time. When I picked up the truck, a different gentleman said that even though the new repair sheet had the same corrective action on it he said “it was a different hose clamp this time” I told him that I had specifically explained where the power steering fluid was leaking from the first time! In addition, he mentioned that the tech needed to add a “small amount of p/s fluid”. So, at this point, I figured it was probably fixed. I crawled under the truck before leaving your lot and noticed an additional oversized non OEM hose clamp beside the stock clamp. Now I’m just a “shade tree mechanic” but, I probably would have located a more correctly sized clamp! Well, it’s fixed, and this isn’t a BMW dealership, so I go my merry way.

On 3/17/05 I checked for leaks and there was none that I could see, so I figured it would be a good time to check the p/s fluid level. The p/s reservoir fluid level was up on the dip stick FAR past the full line! After removing approximately 1.5oz of fluid from the reservoir, the level was at the “full hot” level after driving 30 miles. I have taken the time to take pictures of these deficiencies and have included them as supporting documentation for this complaint.

Needless to say, I am unimpressed with Martin Dodge and will NOT be back for service, warranty or otherwise! I’m so glad that I did not purchase the extended warranty on this truck, especially if this is how service would have been performed.

This was my first and last purchase from your dealership and will not hesitate to inform friends and associates of my experience with Martin Dodge.

R..  - 2000 Concorde Lxi

Love your site. Your right, they really do suck. I have a 2000 Concorde Lxi POS, that has just blown
another PCM Module. That'll cost another $850.00. I had contacted DC today, basically, they told me to go pound sand.  They just messed with the wrong guy.

I'm tired of these billion dollar corps smackin' the little guy. Any excuse not to pay. I think I'm going to scan in all my repair bills, they'll love that. Mind if I borrow some of the stuff from your site? Links, etc.? Hell, I was laughing when I was reading some of your problems, I have the same ones. If I can be of any assistance to you .......  Your doing a public service, bravo.

Note:  In this post, I removed some person communications that I don't think he would like posted.  None were related to D-C quality.

J.B. -  Dodge Ram 2500, 2001 V10

Wow so where to begin. I have a Dodge Ram 2500, 2001 V10. When I purchased the vehicle, I was informed that the V10, although a gas guzzling engine, was known to last for "500,000 miles plus!". Bullshit. well ill just get into the problems ive had. keep in mind that this truck has 91,000 miles on it.

New Transmission
Rebuilt Transfercase
New Engine
New Engine (again)
New steering gearbox (steering shaft sheered completly off, leaving vehicle undrivable, even to the side of the road.)
New steering gearbox (12,000 miles later... same problem.)
Vacuum system, many times over. Makes 4 wheel drive not lock up, and switches airvents on you while driving, very annoying.
(Side note 3 of 4 Weld Racing rims cracked under street driving conditions.)
Harmonic Balancer magicaly came apart
new Power Control Module
New Muffler (old one rusted completly through)
Passenger door seals never worked
Shaft connecting steeringwheel to gearbox is bent
Clockspring replaced (x2....)

Not to mention 6 mpg in city, 10-12 mpg highway. I have yet to hear of any other vehicle having close to 50% differnce between highway and city driving.
I have put countless hours and large sums of money into this vehicle, hopeing that everytime somthing goes wrong, it would be the last thing, and then everything would be alright. I have gotten to the point where when somthing breaks, I find an aftermarket part to put in its place. Right now im in the process of replaceing the entire steering set up. It is very scary to not be able to steer you vehicle. I put over 3000 into the transmission this last summer. The summer befor that it was 6000 into a new engine. To have the steering gearbox replaced cost 800, I am so fed up with Dodge I want to scream.

Robert - 2002 PT Cruiser

Hello everybody and everyone who had terrible experience with any Chrysler vehicle,

My name is Robert and I moved to US on Dec.20 2006. Just recently happened to me and my wife is beyond any human common sense and human and bussines ethics. My wife bought a brand new Chrysler PT Cruiser in October 2002, car was serviced at the dealership store regulary, and recently the transmission crashed when I was driving on the I-405 freeway in L.A. County, which is the busiest freeway in the county driving downhill. Well, I don't have all the details, but I gave the email adress to my wife as she wants to post the whole stroy in details sooo badly, and disgrace Chrysler Corp. and make as much as imbarrased as possible.

James - Sebring - St Petersburg, FL
You've hit the nail on the head.  I did away with my Chrysler Sebring because of poor quality, service....to sum it up poor everything.  I ended up buying an Acura which some people get on my case because I am not buying an american made car.  But well, the quality is better end of story.  Thanks for your hard work dedicated to calling Chrysler out and Happy Thanksgiving!
Krystal - 1998 Chrysler Sebring Convertible Limited Edition
Dear my chryslersucks,

I am a 21 year old with hopes of buying a convertible to have fun with during the summer. Instead I got a 1998 Chrysler Sebring Convertible Limited Edition. Today I woke up to my car being burn to the piece of crap that it really is. It started off I bought the car it flooded i took it back to the guy I bought it from and he said he fixed the problem. So time goes by to lastnight where the car flooded again but this time the wiring short circuited and caught on fire. Burning a hole in my windshield and melting my dashboard. I will attach pictures for you. I am hoping to get it out to all the people with leaking sebrings be very careful your car can and will catch on fire. Luckily I wasn't in mine when it happened. I have been trying to get a hold of people to try and get a class action against Chrysler. This is a serious problem and Chrysler needs to fix it before some get injured or killed.

Tracy - 2006 PT Cruiser Convertible

Chrysler is a big liar and deceiver. Chrysler states solely in the 2006 PT Cruiser Convertible book and other documents that only a STANDARD 2.4L turbo 180hp engine is to go in the Touring Edition

Convertible car and there is no other engine as an option. I bought this car in Sept 2006 unknowingly that the manufacturers had put a non-turbo downgraded engine in this car and have the nerves to call it an option charging an additional price for it. I was lied to by the dealership that this car did have a turbo engine so I bought the car.

Chrysler refuses to give me the correct car and take this LEMON carback. Chrysler goes agains't their car speculations and rules. But I am not going to let them get away with this. I am going to continue fighting Chrysler until they give me the correct car with the turbo engine.

Jeff - 2002 Dodge Intrepid

Keep up the good work.  Just another one for your file.  Transmission in my 02 Dodge Intrepid just blew-up @ 52,000 miles.  Purchased the car brand new in Oct '01 just after 9/11.  Prior to to the bumper-to-bumper warranty expiring, I, like you, took the car in for some concerns.  My was for the excessive oil consumption, which as you might guess, I got the ole "unable to duplicate customer concern."  Told that oil usage is normal and not uncommon for car to use a quart every oil change.  No kidding.  The tranny was repaired under the 7 year/100K mile powertrain warranty that came with the car when I purchased, but most interestingly, it was repaired with a re-manufactured unit.  Says so right on the invoice.  This week, my wife and I traded the car a new GM product.

Car Pros Chrysler in Carson, CA

take in for warranty, told rental car is for 5 days only, on the 6th day they call to tell me that the car is at a third party repair shop because they can't do the work and that it will be another 5 days,  I said no way give me the car back until the parts come in, now they say it is not a warranty item and I am responsible for the rental because I requested my car back.

SECOND EMAIL....

for me it's not so much the quality issues as the complete lack of Customer Service by DCX employees at any level from sales to corporate.   it's the attitude.. We got your money now go the fuck away...

I have a 2005 300C early build, and first year models always have issues... Mechanically the car is sound, it's everything else that is a problem., Electrical seems to be the biggest issue.

My anger stems from the lack of service and the bad attitude I get from dealerships, even with a warranty these a-holes want to charge for work, claiming that they don't have to honor the warranty, only the selling dealership does.  which after talking to DCX is true, only the selling dealership has to honor the warranty, all others can require I pay for service, then I have to submit the invoices to DCX to get my money back.. A very bad way to do business in my opinion.

Norm
I know this is kinda old news, but it falls in line with your experience with warrenty work at the dealer.

You probably remember when Chrysler was selling "new" cars that had been involved in some sort of accident, while being driven by exetutives of the company.

My neighbor unknowingly bought one of those from a the dealer in Lampasas Texas,  and we found that he had a lemon, when one day we noticed that the brand new spare tire rim was bent.

He took it to the dealer, who refused to do anything about it, even though it was obvious that there was a problem.

After numerous trips to that dealer, and a couple others,  he finally got fed up, and wrote to Chrysler corporation about it.

The response from Iacoca(spelling?) was, basically, "the warranty is only as good as the dealer".

How's that for customer service.

Eventually, a class action suit, forced Chrysler to settle with a $500 payment.

AS I said, I know this is old news, but apparently they have not changed their mind-set much.

Kudos to your effort in inform the public.

CSJS - 2002 Intrepid
Okay here is the story of my 2002 Intrepid. My wife and I got this car on the advise of a car dealer. He said that the car was a program car and it ran great. We took it for a test drive and it seemed to be a solid car, We asked about the warranty and got the answer that it was 7 yrs. 70,000 miles. My wife and I got the financing out of the way and took the car home. Looking at the options i turned on one of the child locks and tried to disengage it. It would not come off. I took it back the the dealer and they looked at it and said it was broken. I asked how long it would take them to fix the lock and they said that it wasn't under warranty and the would have th order the parts for it.I asked why it was not covered under the warranty and they told me that the warranty did not cover such wareable Items. so I decided to not fix it.  Then the window in the same door would not roll up and kept falling down and I took in to the dealer and asked them to fix it and they told me it would be some oughtragious price and i asked about my warranty again and they informed me that the car only had a 3yr. 36000 mile warranty and i was over the miles by this point.I Have a four door car and can't use one of them due to poor workmanship or materials. Not long after that I had to Replace the rear brakes and rotors. I could live with that but the front brakes looked brand new and i know that the car relies on the front brakes more than the back ones to stop the car. I now have 76,000 miles on the car and the transmission has gone out.  I still owe $4000.00 on the car and it is going to cost me $2000.00 to get the car fixed. I have had lots of little problems with this car and now it is just a EXTRA LARGE paper weight In the driveway. i Hate crysler and I will Neven buy another crysler product in my life and hope my two boys have learned from my mistake and never buy one either.

Lori - 2005 Chrysler Sebring

Hi, I have a 2005 Chrysler Sebring. In Sept. 2006 my battery died. I was told by the dealership (BOB CALDWELL CHRYSLER) to just jump the car, which I did. The car ran fine until October 2006. Then I had another battery problem. This time the dealership had my car two days and came up with a story that some cables connected to the battery were pinched and causing a short. They replaced the cables and battery. In November, AGAIN, dead battery. Keep in mind, I discovered the dead battery on my way out the door to take my son to school and myself to work. In Nov. after having my car for three days, they said it looked like I just had a string of bad batteries, wow, what bad luck! Now here in January, dead battery again.

The dealership/Chrysler Corporation has had my car for two days and is REFUSING to give me a rental. The car is a 2005 with only 27,000 miles on it. They have had to call in technical assistance from Chrysler and still will not give me a rental. They told me that if I pick the car up, being that it is my only means of transportation, then they will cancel the tech assist and call it "fixed". The Chrysler corporation is a joke. They have been most unhelpful and their employees seem to lack education and are on some crack-to-work program. I appreciate your website, at least knowing I am not the only one. This is very fustrating and I am amazed that a corporation would treat people like this over the old evil green dollar.

Thank You

Doug

I do not own a Chrysler 300, but i have owned 2 D-C product which in my opinion suck, you are not alone.

Along with the Customer service as well. My parents bought me a car for graduation in 1999, it was a 1997 Dodge Intrepid, sporty and cool but a true hunk of junk, The first thing that went wrong with it was the radiator with only 36,000.00 miles on the vehicle at the time, it was replaced, then while on vacation the "AIR BAG" light kept flashing 1400 miles away from home. Not wanting to waste time on this issue, i wait until i get home to take it to the shop it was under warranty as a Service Contract was purchased as a "JUST IN CASE". The passenger seat also made a horrible popping noise, when taking off or reversing.

These issues were fixed. After 3 years i got rid of the peace of junk, for foreign made, i then have 2 more foreign cars that last forever it seems, one an Isuzu, the other a KIA, I then decided to try to get an American made car so, I bought a 2003 dodge stratus in November of 2005 it was 2 years old and in great shape, plus came with service contract. This means nothing to them at the service area nor does it mean anything when you call D-C. One month after purchasing the vehicle it went into the shop because it would idle really low, it was supposedly fixed(NOT), this was in the shop 3 times before i decided to contact a Lemon Law Attorney/ Consumer law Attorney. During the

3 months of them negotiating a deal with D-C, then it decided to run out of gas while still saying it was half way full, i did not know of this until the shop had called to say that i had run out of gas them thinking "this is very funny" laughing while telling me the news. The Gage was fixed(to their stupidity).

Keep in mind i wish this was the only thing that would have been wrong with the car. I took it back for the idling problem as a final fix which my lawyer advised me to do. They found another problem which took 3 days to fix, this time it was the exhaust manifold (MADE OF STEELE, it was cracked in multiple places), "very hard object to break" from mechanics at D-C, said they fixed the problem, 3 days later the car cut completely off while stuck in traffic, i was probably the most maddest person at this time of day, thank god it started back up. While all of this is going on i accumulate the miles as this is the only car i drive, and have. Going up to 55,000.00 miles I think to myself nothing will happen with this I'm wasting my time, me thinking wishfully that they will do a repurchase for their negligence. I hear from my lawyer 5 months after the initial contact, they say that D-C cannot help me with my problem because i have to many miles on this vehicle i had the car for 1 year while all of this was going on. D-C wouldn't either compensate me for my troubles, which my lawyers also fought for. I have always loved Mercedes Benz, and dodge. I will never purchase a vehicle from D-C, EVER AGAIN. I traded in my Stratus, for a Hyundai, which i love very much. From now on its foreign i thought i would send you this as maybe you can post this on your site, as i am trying to post to as many sites as i can so that i can warn people of their mistakes to purchase D-C products. With numerous letters written to D-C i have yet to receive a response, or rude or snotty comment, but i think maybe one day i will in hopes for an answer, soon i will be contacting local news papers, and posting any way shape or form to warn people not to purchase. My 1997 Dodge Stratus  E S , loaded , served me well , except for the brakes . At about 28,000 miles , the rotors were warped . I don,t abuse my brakes . I shift down when I am going down hills . A problem is only an inconvenience unless the bastards that sell the car won,t stand behind their bumper to bumper warrantee . I don't mind replacing the pads . I do mind replacing the rotors .
Traded on a 2001 Dodge Intrepid E S . , loaded . This piece of garbage needed rotors at , you guessed it , about 29,000 miles . At 40,000 miles , it needed swaybar links . $75.00 each for parts . Here I am at 68,000 miles . I need a shifter cable . I hope it holds out till Spring .
The brake problem is evidently a design screw up . I replaced rotors with brembo rotors and good pads . They have also warped slightly .
Sway bar links . Take a walk thru a u pull it yard and look at the number of cars with new links . Some early ones had grease fittings . They held up . these linke have a ball joint on each end . These things should be greased , but no fittinge on later cars .
The shift cable . It has a rubber bellews on the transmission end to seal the cable . It has a rubber sleeve that helps stop shaffing or maybe rattle noise . It collects water , and holds it on the trans . end , and allows the water that the bellows was used to stop , to eventually corrode the cable . You have to see the cable to understand what I am saying .
I have owned chry. probucts from a 1938 ply ., that I still own ,several 1970's  thru a series of K Cars , some turbo charged , up to the one that I own now . It seems that the german parent of chry. doesn't know what customer service is . Treat me right , and I will bring some new customers when I come to buy a new one . Screw me and I will spread the word .
            Excuse the lengthy note

JC - 1999 Jeep Wrangler
I have a 1999 Jeep Wrangler that I bought new.  This vehicle has the easiest life.  I follow the "severe" maintenance schedule to the letter even though the vehicle drives on back roads with no stops for 5 minutes, then is all highway miles on cruise control consistently for every trip.  No stop and go.  No towing.  No off road.  In fact, the first five years of its life, it was never even driven in rain or snow.  I only used it on nice days.

It has thanked me by needing three rear differentials in 70,000 miles (and soon to be fourth), one front differential rebuild (I was told that "Jeep drivetrains are delicate" by Jeep's service department), airbags that have needed service three different times, paint that peels off in chunks (even though it is washed and waxed regularly), a transmission that started whining at 60,000 mi, bad ABS sensors, a radiator that just "split open", wipers that sometimes won't turn on, turn signals that sometimes don't work, seatbelts that tore through, seats that split open, a radio that needs to be repaired on average once a year since I have owned it, just about every seal involving the drivetrain has failed at least once, a climate control fan switch that "melted" because the service department said "I had the heat on too long", a speedometer that has been wrong since new that tick off and extra mile for every 57 miles I drive, and exterior trim that all turned a chalk white after the first year.

What a piece of crap.  It must be a Jeep thing.  I had more problems with this vehicle in any given year than I have had in any other vehicles I have owned combined.  I have owned new vehicles that I have kept for 15+ years that have never had the problems that this Jeep has had in a few months.  About every six weeks, it is something else.  Other than another Chrysler product I owned in the 80's (which also sucked) I have never had problems with a car.  Never.  Gas and go.  Chrysler is just one problem after another.

I want to start a website that people can send in pictures of Chryslers broken down on the highway.  Since they are the only vehicles you ever see broken down (and there are PLENTY of them) on the highway.  I see an average of about ten a week on the side of the road.  No other cars (save for flat tires) just Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler, Jeep, Mercedes.  What do you think?

Jerry - Multiple D-C

I have Leased 5 chrylers in a row, man am I an idiot. Chrsyler charged me 600.00 of items that they can not explain. I was promised from a dealership that they were paying the last payment. The payment was not made by the dealership, chrysler said they are independent, send us a cashiers check or we will ruin your credit. I tried to discuss the over charge they said the accout will be in collection by Monday. They sent it to a collection agency who said: OUR client plans on reporting you to all agencys if you do not Western Union the money now. Western Union fee is 59.00, this company does not accept check or credit. Please if you read this, DO NOT BUY A CHRYLER, they will slaughter you, your credit, and if they had control they would take your house. AVOID Them, please. Do anything else, walk, use a scooter, skateboard, Toyota, BMW, or foot.

Jonathan - 2001 Chrysler Sebring

Hello i thought i would tell you that my uncles friend bought a new Chrysler Sebring back in 2001. At 78,000 miles the check engine light came on so he took it into the dealer. They said his engine was bad and that his transmission was about to go as well. I had to stifle my cries of "i told you so" when he told me. So he went and bought a 2003 Ponitac Bonneville, best decision he ever made. Thanks for getting the word out on the quality of Chrysler Vehicles.

J.. - Employee Comment

I work for d-c  and am quite ashamed of the lack of quality or care that  I see going into our vehicles.  No wonder my job is in jeopardy  now.  And oh yeah I buy GM VEHICLES NOW . Awesome site  keep it up.

Tim - 2006 Chrysler Town and Country- With Video!

I bought a brand new Chrysler Town and Country in April of '06 from Action Motors in Danbury, Connecticut.

It started leaking basically as soon as I bought it.

Everytime it would rain the van would leak from the interior coat hangers. The interior lights would fill up with water etc.

I brought it back immediately to the Dealership and they told me that the car didn't leak and I must have left the sunroof open.

Long story short, the van has spent over 38 days in service since I bought it.

Chrysler Service claims they have done extensive water testing and has ascertained that the van doesn't leak.

They have told me on several occasions that I must have left the sunroof open. When I asked them to close the sunroof and disconnect the switch to prove to them that the sunroof wasn't the reason I was leaking they refused.

Please check out my video on youtube and tell me that the van doesn't leak.

Harriet - Daughters 2004 Jeep Liberty

I happened upon your website while browzing the internet. I, too, am anti-Chrysler and this is my story:

My beautiful 32-yr. old daughter, a third grade school teacher, was killed on her way to work due to a tragic automobile accident on October 31, 2006.

She was rear-ended on Interstate-10 by a man driving a Ford F-150 pick-up truck going approx. 60 mph. My daughter's vehicle, a 2004 Jeep Liberty, burst into flames upon impact and my daughter was burned to death. Since my daughter's death, I have learned that the fuel tank and filler neck on the Jeep Liberty (and Jeep Grand Cherokee) was designed and installed in a location (behind the rear bumper) that is susceptible to rupture or puncture in a rear-end collision. When gasoline escapes from a ruptured or punctured fuel tank, a high risk of fire and explosion exists.

Because of this terrible tragedy and tremendous loss of such a beautiful life, I feel an obligation to warn everyone of the potential danger when driving these vehicles. The public has a right to know before purchasing these vehicles. I wish someone would have warned me. I realize that accidents do happen and people are killed everyday in their automobiles; however, no vehicle should ever explode and burst into flames in a rear-end collision. Something should be done about this before others are killed needlessly.

Kurt - 2004 Chrysler

Cant get parts for 2004 Chrysler door panels. I have tried for 9month but with out luck. Called Chrysler all I get is a runaround they are checking on it .The dealer get same old story they give them s shipping date but it gets change all the time.

Brian - 300m

I too had problems with my 300M.  Believe it or not, I can say with pride that I actually picketed those bastards at Orange Coast Dodge, after they tried sticking me with over $2000 to fix my A/C.  They actually called the CMPD on me!

Not only did I get them to reduce their A/C repair by about 50% (still got screwed), I got them back by parking my car in front of their dealership to sell it!  They then threatened to have it towed.  Only one problem with that - they had a hard time trying to tow my car from a public street (dumb bastards)!

Check out this nice design I made (attached).  Makes for a great t-shirt logo.  Gotta love it.

Andrew - Chrysler - Truck

I bought a brand new Chrysler truck nov 2006 its now May 2007. The truck has 11000 miles and it is completely falling apart. When I turn the steering wheel the truck emits a horrible grinding noise. When I drive down the highway the engine will just stops and a loud clunk is heard. Also around town the engine just dies at any given time. pulling out in traffic, stopping at a light, driving down the street at anytime it can just die. Also a loud clunk is heard and slop in the drive train when I push or let off of the gas.

Naturally I have taking it to the dealer and they wont fix it, I don't argue with them or get upset because I know that is pointless. They usually keep the truck for a week or so and refuse to speak to me when I call. When I get the truck back they charge me for work not covered by warranty and of course it still isn't fixed. They insist that it is fixed, I drive off and same thing the truck just dies in the road.

I dont know what to do I am stuck with a truck that doesnt get me to work. I am paying hi payments on it and it spends most of the time in the shop while I pay rental car fees.

chrysler sucks

Shilo - Canada - Dodge Truck

I am from Edson Alberta Canada, I own a Dodge 2500 Cummins powered engine which Cylinder 6 on the engine was scarred up which the engine was using a little oil, the dealership which I brought my truck to has had the truck for over 6 weeks, and no courtesy vehicle, the problem with that is I use my truck for work, on top of that the engine has 160000km warrranty and my truck only has 119000km on it and they are only going to cover approxiametly half of the cost of $8000.00 dollars, because they took pictures and they established I had dusted the engine, which I think is stupid considering it was there air intake which allowed what ever caused the problem into the engine.

My DC sucks because they will not honor there warranty and do not have courtesy vehicles at this dealership.

Aya - Grateful NON DC owner!

Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!

I have a ten-year-old car and it has held up pretty well over the years, but I always said when it started costing me money I'd get rid of.  Recently the AC failed--a $1000 repair--and I felt it was time to start looking for a new car.  Stupid me, I had my heart set on a PT Cruiser.

Being a diligent consumer, I went to the Chrysler site first and was impressed.  Ooooo shiny.  Then, of course, I googled "Chrysler Car Problems."  Dear Lord!  The number of sites that popped up made my blood run cold.  After skimming over several sites, I happened upon yours.  I was truly horrified at the number of problems you had with ONE CAR!  I feel like I have truly dodged a bullet.  As you can tell by the fact that I am driving a ten-year-old car, I don't have a lot of money to pay out of my pocket for repairs that should be covered under warranty.  I guess considering the number of class action lawsuits pending for steering problems, wiring problems, engine problems, oil consumption problems and transmission problems one should be equally concerned for life and limb as well as one's wallet!

The truly sad thing is, there is a woman I work with who has a Pacifica and it has broken down at work at least seven times that I know about and goodness knows how many more times in addition to that.  The car is only two years old. I'll have to send her this link and tell her to unload that lemon before it sucks her dry.

So thank you once more for you site, and please keep it going as long as you can--more people need to hear stories like yours.

With gratitude

Susan - 2003 Chrysler Sebring Sedan

I haven’t found anything online similar to my problems anywhere online.

I have a 2003 Chrysler Sebring Sedan.  A year or 2 ago, the interior plastic pieces started breaking.  I don’t usually have passengers in my car, so it’s definitely not from use.  I live in a hot, dry climate, so maybe that is part of the problem, but surely that should have been tested, right?

The small plastic piece that holds the visor up has broken twice.  It’s broken now, but don’t want to bother replacing it again.  It was not pulled, just started cracking around the prongs and broke, the plastic in the door (area you would use to shut the door when you are sitting in the car) broke on both sides of the car- the whole piece will come out if you pull it up, and the plastic that covers the anchors behind the backseat by the rear window, also the glue holding the molding under and up around the steering wheel is loose, I push it down every so often and hope it holds.

I have had mechanical problems, but minor, nothing to complain about. My transmission fluid started leaking, but got that fixed under $500.  The car it was squeeling when I drove it off the lot, but was told that it would go away, it didn’t, but a simple belt replacement fixed it.

I’ve had several cars but never suspected I would ever deal with this kind of car problem, it’s so weird that the plastic pieces are falling apart. Oh, I also forgot to mention that my a/c vents won’t stay in place, I have to wedge a piece of paper between the vent and the side to hold it in place.

I think my next car will be a Toyota.
