Send your story If you don't have a web site but want to get your
message out, I'll add your story below.
Send in whatever you want within reason. Just click on the
email link above. Also post your problems to the public
Daimler-Chrysler Vehicle Problems Message Board.
Sorry for those that have been
sending in their stories and I haven't posted them. Just too
busy to keep up. Make sure you check the notice on the home
page. Contact Kevin at the WSJ! Maybe he can help get
out the word.
I'm also sorry if you did not want
to be contacted by him directly. I saw no harm in forwarding
your complaints to him directly. I didn't have time to contact
all of you personally to ask permission. Since many of you
were asking for help, this was an opportunity.
Some simple rules to follow when sending in your
Chrysler story:
Nothing
pro-Chrysler gets posted here. You can call me and
everybody names in an email but you won't get it posted. If
you are really out there with a comment and I feel you are sincere,
I might post you in the Hall of Bigots. This site is about
problems. People can read pro-Chrysler material directly from
their website.
I won't post any personal information such as your
full name or email address UNLESS you ask me to do it.
If you want to send pictures that help tell your
story, try to size and compress them to fit the web page. JPG
is preferred.
If you didn't properly maintain the vehicle and it
failed, I wouldn't blame Chrysler. Therefore I don't recommend
you flog them publically on this site unless you paid to have
something you damaged fixed and there were service related problems.
Ok?
I don't spell check or correct your text. I'm
not into requiring people to be English majors to tell their story.
I do think stories that are properly written will have more value to
the readers. You decide.
Keep it clean. It's a public site.
Vulgarity is ok when you are dealing with Chrysler privately but
I'll have to edit it out here. I don't want to get banned by
some of the watchdog programs such as Kangu.net. I already
made their list temporarily because of the site name.
Messages that offer assistance in any way to the
readers of this site are generally welcome. Yes, even those
from Chrysler directly. But no psychiatric self-help
suggestions. Most of us have it together mentally.
It's OK to comment about previous stories.
Before you do, remember rule #1
-
Nothing pro-Chrysler gets
posted here.
If you are looking for help with your problem, you
can post it here and MAYBE somebody will read it. I have no
resources to help. Sorry.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo - 29,800 miles
I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that's a
lease that was stickered at $33,000.
I had to get new rotors at 18,000 miles. Now, at
29,800 miles guess what! I need new rotors AGAIN. Chrysler refuses
to cover it under warranty even those there are pages, and pages,
and pages about this problem on the internet and they know about the
problem. I can't wait for this lease to be up.
Icing on the cake...my BRAND NEW CAR was RUSTING -
that's right folks, RUSTING, at 15,000 miles, so I took it in to
have the rusty parts replaced so my car didn't look ghetto and they
scratched my car up - admitted to it - told me they would take care
of it - threw some clear coat over the scratches and gave it back to
me. They said they "couldn't fix the scratches because they would
have to repaint the whole car". Unbelievable. This was a "5-Star
Certified Dealer" best of the best right!

Jennifer - 1998 Dodge Durango - Purchased Fall 2005
I would like to give you a little insight on our
situation. Last fall, I bought a 98' Dodge Durango. It was perfect,
inspected it, took it for a test drive, it was in wonderful
condition with service records and a newly overhauled transmission.
I drive this car every day, put my kids in it, and take it to the
mountains. Drive it in the snow, the rain, and the sun. 3 months
ago, I could have bet you one of my children this car would get you
from point A to point B without a problem. my significant other is
an engineer and keeps close tabs on our vehicles. I am also a clever
female who makes strong note of how things work and maintains my
vehicles to be sure of no major issues. This being
so...................here's where the trouble begins......
In June, a coil wire cracks, and the car needs a
part that cost $40. No problem. The car has been my best
friend!!!! So I think no big deal. take it to my local dealer to
be sure the right parts get put into it by the right service
dept., good call right? WRONG! with the coil wire, and all the
RECOMMENDED services, I pay $600. Ok, fine. Better for the car to
get the proper services by a proper dealer. The same day its
done, I take it home, it stalls and I barely make it home. the
dealership says its another issue, I have to have it brought in.
My better half says no, we will fix it our selves. In the mean
time after getting a transmission service done by the dealership,
I, like normal, check the tranny fluid, dangerously low!!!! They
just did a service, did they leave it out? Did they forget? So I
monitor for 2 days, making sure I don’t have a leak. Nope, no
leak. So a month later, its still having a problem, I leave to
California for the third death this summer, and my better half is
driving it home from my grandmothers memorial service when the
transmission fails!!!!!! WHAT???? yes, it fails. Mind you it has a
newly rebuilt tranny done by a specialist. So my better half gets
it towed home. calls the dealership the next business day. They
say they are sending someone right over to get it in to the shop.
3 days later a tow truck shows up. 3 days later? what happened to
right away? guess they took a long lunch. So a week after its
towed, they tell us, "well its your problem, we didn’t leave any
fluid out. And if it was low, its YOUR fault, cause you’re a woman
and you don’t know how to check it properly." WHAT? a woman, and
that makes me ignorant? Ok, this is getting personal. So now, we
have a problem. A car that was running fine, now needs a major
overhaul. After talking with the service manager, he agrees to
give us 50% off parts and labor, funny huh? Seem as though they
are taking some blame? Yup! We go for the overhaul $2000. say ok,
I guess. We don’t really have another option. The car is broken,
and now it needs to be fixed. So 3 weeks later, promise after
promise of tomarrow it will be ready, they call me and say "come
get your car, its done." How joyful I am to be getting my car
back!!! It was only supposed to take a week, but since they gave
us a deal, all the sudden we were low priority. Go figure.
So I go to pick up my car! I walk in, take my
paperwork and my keys. They say "all ready, we test drove it,
works great!" Get in my car, start it up and go. Funny, it seems
a little slow. I think to myself, ok, you haven't had it for over
4 weeks, might just need getting used to again. So I go home.
almost home....wont shift, feels like im towing a boat!
Something's wrong. very wrong. Im sure, even though To the
DEALERSHIP im a woman, and ignorant when it comes to knowing if my
car is acting odd, or how to maintain my vehicle. SO I open the
hood, its HOT, hot to the touch, that never was like that before.
So I call the dealer, they say "bring it back. we will give you a
loaner." Ok. I take it back. scared im going to wreck. I get
there, go inside, give them my keys and paper work. They give me a
minivan, on empty. Fine, go put $30 in it. I get 4 miles out and
it breaks down. call, go back, and they give me a Neon, on empty,
wont give me my $30 I just put in the van. Fine, not really
comparable to what I gave them, but ok. The next day, they call
my better half and say "she's paranoid, there's nothing wrong with
the car, come get it." He says, " if I come down there, there
better not be anything wrong with the car!" The dealership says,
" no, nothing wrong, we drove it. And we don’t know what she's
talking about." He goes down there, goes on a test drive, and sure
enough, there's a problem. So the dealer tells us, it will have to
wait until the tech comes in on Sat. ok, fine. Mind you, this
transmission they just overhauled the same day, had a warranty. 1
yr, 12,000 miles by this dealership. On Sat. they call us, tell us
it needs a valve body that’s going to cost $800. What happened to
the warranty? gone? Doesn’t cover that. but its part of the
transmission. nope, they say since they never touched it, its not
covered. What did we pay for then? our car is still broken. They
say its not their problem, and the part is back ordered. Ok, so
what are our options? nothing. we pay the money, let it sit until
the part comes in someday? wow! and they claim they are five star
service.
We have researched this, and it’s a very common
problem. we cant afford to get this repair that was supposed to be
covered in the first place. Its like getting your kitchen
remodeled. but after you pay, they never did the cabinets. And
when you ask, they say they aren't part of the kitchen. go figure.
What to do?
Can you shed some light on this? Daimler Chrysler
customers are getting screwed. this is awful. I can count on 2
diff times that me being a woman, was the root of the problem in
their opinion. And they made that very clear. I would love it for
you to confront Daimler Chrysler in Monroe about their sexist,
fraudulent, and Consumer robbing practices.

- Missouri - 2006 PT Cruiser
In may 2006 I bought a fully loaded PT Cruiser, and since lost the
oil in my engine not only once, but twice. Not to mention that I had a
spark plug foul out between the two oil incidents. The second time my
engine lost oil I demanded a thorough investigation of what the damage
would be to my engine because I drove forever and the OIL LIGHT NEVER
CAME ON!!! I had to go to a local store, buy oil so that I could drive
my car to the dealership and then demand that they refund my cash for
the oil. When I heard back from them I was told they were replacing
the engine in my car and when I picked it up my service summary said
"excessive play in crankshaft, replaced engine short block assembly."
(Because the best possible solution is to replace only the bottom half
of my engine, forget the rings and pistons, they don't mean anything).
Then I have taken the car back three times for the belts squeaking and
finally they told me even though they hear the noise from the engine,
they cannot service my car until the check engine light comes on.
I demanded they buy my car back, emailed Chrysler once, didn't get
a response, bombarded them with emails daily and still didn't get a
response, called another dealership and finally got a phone number of
a local representative who would "help" me in my situation, which has
escalated so far for me to retain an attorney (which literally didn't
help me at all) and am still trying to figure out my way out of this
mess.
Chrysler is offering to replace my vehicle, but it will cost me an
outrageous amount of money out of my pocket and my finance company
won't extend my loan AND pay the difference in sales tax on the two
vehicles. OR they will give me an extended warranty, OR make a car
payment, OR install a new engine (how will that resolve anything if
Chrysler has had an oil consumption problem with their engines since
2001?!?!?!). Of all the times I have taken my car in for service I
have had a loaner car for about 30 days since I bought my car.
Missouri Lemon Law basically protects the manufacturer, not the
consumer, I cannot demand that they repurchase the vehicle from me if
they offer to replace the vehicle and I am not free to shop for a
vehicle I would rather have. I am TRAPPED in this piece of crap with a
whistling engine that can be heard from all directions and a halfway
rebuilt motor. My car is sluggish, stalls out and NOT at all what I
expected to pay $23,000 for. I am limited to picking a Chrysler, Dodge
or Jeep product that matches the sticker price of my car, and have to
pay Chrysler 20 cents a mile for the mileage I put on my car. I hate
Chrysler and will never buy from this company again nor will I
recommend my friends or family to buy from this company.

I am 53 years old and
have been aware of Chrysler products and their cheap and
inadequate entry in the american market place. I know
better than to spend my money on anything that they
make. I knew when Damilier Benz bought them that the
only thing that could happen would Be the best car maker
in the world combined with the worst could only bring
the best down. I am not sure that the worst made any
improvements, but I know Mercedes has taken a toll. Now
that Damlier Benz has dumped them after their quality
control problems came from Chrysler. I am no idiot but
the fools that keep buying this piece of junk need to
just deal with it . Chrysler = cheap piece of junk.

i have a comment that i was a manager for chrysler and
it never failed to see how many complaint after
complaint was not being addressed especially with the
radio issues that are junk and also they're so called
first day rent crap and read a cust had purchased a veh
and was told after 5 days of rental the cust will be
responsible for the rental well that's not true the
co.should had called for additional day's to be covered
for cust and especially they have to send the car out
for another co.to repair well i will agree with most of
the people on this site especially suspension issue and
electrical nightmares with 300-intr-vans all have to
many issue's to drop so before any other complaints are
brought about before going to the dealership i pretty
sure i can answer most of your questions and what to be
aware of before you go into a dealership! so any
question send them to (steveseldon70@yahoo.com)
so keep in mind maybe i'll open up a website just to
help resolve some unresolved and tell you guy's the next
step you can take?

Want proof
Chrysler is the worst automobile manufacturer and worst
out of the big 3 American auto companies?
The proof is that they have far more websites against
them and angry consumer complaints that can be found on
the internet than even GM and Ford COMBINED. They also
have more complaints and websites than any other
automaker in history.
Chrysler makes garbage. For those that say Mopar or No
Car, if they want to settle for substandard vehicles
just to be a brand loyalist at all costs, fine with me.
I love laughing as I see more late model Dodge, Chrysler
vehicles broken down on the side of the road, not
because of flat tires either than any other brand of
vehicles.
Chrysler has proven that its marketing is nothing more
than a scam and that they don't really care about
customers.

Can't wait for them to go under due to all the internet
sites against them informing people in regard to the
truth about Chrysler.
Don't even get me started on the ridiculous premature
problems, defects and failure I've experienced with my
two Chrysler vehicles.
Great site, keep up the good work!

I bought my 2002
Chrysler Sebring in 2005. It had 25,000 miles on it. I
was told by the dealer that the car was driven by a
senior citizen, and it's practically new.
Within a month, the battery failed. $150
A few months later, the alternator had to be replaced.
$200
A few months later, the transmission got messed up.
$1700
Then, a few months later, the headlight went out. $60
A noise started to eminate from the car. The dealership
told me it was nothing, and it was a sign of the car
getting old. $250 (to diagnose it!)
Engine light came on. Dealership told me it was O2
sensor. $300
Brakes needed to be replaced cause they were squeeking.
$350
They squeeked still, and I went in 11 (ELEVEN) times.
Each time I was told they couldn't fix it or that they
fixed it and the noise came back while I drove home.
$1800 and many excuses later, they said they fixed the
noise completely (it was some CV-joints, and
ball-bearings, and the brakes being too slippery or
something).
Engine light again. This time, the clock-spring in the
air-bags. $220
Engine light AGAIN. And now it's April of 2008. It's
been 2 years and 8 months, and I've spent so much money,
I could've gotten a better/newer car to begin with!
I'm *NEVER* buying a Chrysler again. In fact, I'm never
buying an American car ever again. This is the last
Chrysler, and I can't wait to get rid of it!

I purchased a Dodge
Caravan for my wife in 2003. This was a brand new top of
the line Caravan with from what the salesman told me the
best warranty in the industry. 3 months after we
purchased it, we were driving down Hwy 59 in Texas about
3 to 5 miles from our home and it started to rain. The
rain was very heavy to the point that we had to pull
over and wait 5 minutes to see. When we arrived at our
home about 10 minutes after the rain had started, we
shut off the van, went inside and waited for the rain to
stop. About 30 minutes later the rain stoped. You have
to imagine that on this day a record high temperature
was met in Texas. I think it was around 110 degrees that
day. We then went out to go somewhere and the van would
not start. Nothing! No engine turning noise at all. We
called the dealership and they told us not to worry,
they would send a tow truck to get it and fix it. They
did send a tow truck. The tow truck elevated our van,
and this is very important to remember. The van was
elevated to a point where it was not level and water
would not sit on the van!!! or in the van!!! They towed
it to the dealer that was closest to our home. The next
day we get a phone call from the dealer telling us it
would cost $6000.00 to fix it. It seems that the rain
somehow got in UNDER THE HOOD AND INTO THE COMPUTER
CONTROL BOX AND FLOODED IT! If that was not enough, they
also informed me that my warranty would not cover this
as it was a flood. I informed them that there was no
flood it was a rain storm. They told me that they had
pictures of water sitting ontop of the engine block to
prove it was flooded. Now imagine this! One: This was
one of the hottest days in Texas, 110 degrees outside.
What was the temperature in my engine compartment.... ?
Higher than that no doubt. Also the tow truck raised the
van to tow it leaving the van un-level so any water that
might have been sitting on the engine block that did not
evaporate the day it sat in this record high Texas heat,
would have simply rolled off, but they claimed they had
a picture of this. They still have not shown me this
picture! I then called Chrystler to ask why it's not
covered by the warranty and they stated that my warranty
does not cover floods. I informed them that I had my
van's interior cleaned by a company the day before the
this happened, I had a reciept to prove this and a
letter from the cleaning company stating that this van
was not flooded at all. All they needed to do was
shampoo the kid dirt and food from the seat that my 1
year old daughter had spilled. Christler still insisted
that this van had been in a flood and they would not pay
to have it fixed. Then it dawned on me that not only did
Chrystler make this van and the warranty that they
refused to cover, but they had also financed it as well.
So I informed them that they could do what ever they
wanted with the van, I would not retrieve it or pay for
it, and have not. I purchased a new vehicle for my wife
5 days after this happened. You can imagine I am sure
the problems Chryster has made for me since then. They
even went as far as trying to make a claim with my
insurance company to recover thier losses. My insurance
company called me about this claim and I explained to
them all of what I just told you and Liberty Mutual told
me not to pay and they would not pay as well. They
informed me that they would sue Chrystler if necessary
over this issue. I know this is long and I apologize,
but I HATE Chrysler now. I am a mechanical engineer and
have a relatively good idea of how this kind of design
engineering works. If Chryslter thought that this
computer that controls the engine was septable to water,
they could have very easily made the box that contains
it WATER TIGHT! NOT WATER PROOF MIND YOU, SIMPLY WATER
TIGHT. A face seal that cost about $1.00 would have
prevented this issue, but Chryster who recruites there
engineers from Cracker Jacks Boxes never thought of this
and to this day avoids the issue. I want to tell the
world about these theives and ruin as many sales as I
possible can for the discomfort they have caused me. 3
years later, I am still getting phone calls from
collection agencies about this. They will not stop it! I
am telling you this in hopes that you can direct me to a
web site where I can write this out and let as many
people as possible know about it. I have even thought
about starting a web site myself. The front page of the
site would be a Dodge Caravan with a big red circle
around it and a red cross through it, like you see in
Ghost Busters... Can you direct me to a site that i can
post this story, only written with some thought, dates,
times, temperatures so people can see how the money
hungrey idiots at Chrysler act.
Thanks,
David M.

I'm glad you've
taken the time to create a web site like this. I wish I
knew about it before I bought an 05' Caravan SXT. I
actually bought an 04 Caravan, but took it back after a
couple of weeks when the interior started falling to
pieces. I then bought an 05'. Two months later, and I
was ready to get rid of it as well. Since I've owned it,
the brakes went @ 19,000 miles. The air bag sensors had
to be replaced. The oil pan leaked and had to be re-gasketed.
The electrical system does quircky things every now and
then. Paint has chipped off around the windshield
pillars. Very poor quality, sub standard materials, and
shoddy engineering. This is my last American car.
Looking to Toyota or Lexus for my next set of wheels, or
I will be looking at something purely electric, such as
a ZAP, Tesla, or one of the new Mitsubishi MIEV's due
out next year. I've sent Chrysler emails, but the only
reply I get is "Ve're sorry". More like "We're sorry you
didn't buy a more expensive vehicle from us!".
Then, I came across this web site:
http://www.chryslerlistens.com
What a joke! You can only give them a piece of your mind
of 1000 characters or less! They obviously could care
less. I gave them a piece of my mind. Everyone else
should as well, for what ever it's worth.

I own a 2006 Chrysler
300. I bought it brand new and am the original owner. I
have taken this vehicle in on several occasions for a
number of different problems. The first problem was just
a few months after I purchased it. The vehicle would
just turn off on me intermitently and it idoled funny.
Of course, they said nothing was wrong with it and it
idoled normally. It happened again, so I took it in to a
different Chrysler dealer who again, told me they
couldn’t find anything wrong with it. The next problem
was the a/c. This has been going on since, but according
to Chrysler, my car that turns off on me is perfectly
normal! They said, bring it back next time it has the
problem. Well if it shuts off on me, how am I supposed
to bring it in! The next problem was that the gear
shifter got stuck in park. Well, I know a tow truck
driver and when I first purchased the car he laughed at
me and asked if it had been stuck in park yet. He said
he tows about 3-4 a day and its something that should be
recalled but since Chrysler is too cheap to recall it,
people keep getting stuck. Well sure enough, I went out
to my garage one day and the wonderful Chrysler was
stuck in park! I called the dealer and even the service
advisor said, "Oh yeah, we have quite a few of these
come in!" I cant believe you pay thousands of dollars
for a vehicle and expect that as a new car it will be
reliable. If they have these problems all the time, why
is there not a recall? I read that Chrysler refuses to
recall things just to save them money and they also have
their technicians say there's nothing wrong with the
vehicles so they don’t have to pay out tons of money to
repair their crappy cars! Never again will I buy a DM
vehicle!

Hi: Thank you for the
opportunity to vent my frustrations. Against my better
judgement, I purchased a Chrysler 300 1.5 years ago.
With less than 18,000 miles, it has already been in the
repair shop twice for major problems. The first time,
the torque converter was replaced, yet the problem still
exists without having been solved. This last episode,
however, involves a real safety issue. While I’m driving
it, the car just suddenly dies. The engine abruptly
stops working. When this happens, I am barely able to
steer the car safely to the curb. I took it to the
dealership from where I bought it and I’m told that the
“problem can’t be diagnosed because it’s not showing up
on the computer.” I’m pissed. This car cost $25,000 and
is not safe to drive. Who knows when it will suddenly
cut out again, with no warning whatsoever? On the
freeway where everyone is traveling at 65 mph?
Since the problem cannot
be duplicated at the dealership, it cannot be resolved
and I am left with no other option than to drive the car
as is. The dealership is Jim Marsh Chrysler/Jeep in Las
Vegas, Nevada.
I have therefore informed
the dealership that if anyone gets hurt as a result of
the obvious defects of this car, I will sue. I feel that
this is my only option, unfortunately. I am holding the
dealership personally responsible for the safety of the
passengers who travel with me in this crappy, piece
of $#it car! I am livid over this situation.
Needless to say, I will NEVER buy another Chrysler
product and truly feel empathy for those of you who have
had similar experiences. After doing a brief internet
search, I was able to find numerous complaints of the
exact same nature as mine. There are stories of Chrysler
300 owners out there who are driving along and, out of
the clear blue, their engine dies, sometimes with
injuries involved. No deaths yet though that I know of.
This is not acceptable. I
feel that I’ve been ripped off. I have a life and a job,
and I need this car to get back and forth to work. When
my car’s in the shop, I’m homebound. It is no wonder
Chrysler has the lowest customer satisfaction level of
any of the major car makers. It is a well-deserved
reputation and I hope others are able to read this
before purchasing their products!

Chrysler 300 owner.

On March 1, 2008 I pulled
my 2007 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4x4 into my driveway. I
left the truck running with the lights on and let my
little dog out. I unloaded supplies and let my dog into
the house. I reached in and turned the key off.
Instantly the truck started rolling backwards. I could
hear a clicking noise. My first reaction was to pull up
on the shifter as I thought it must be out of gear but
it was not. I remember yelling for my husband then I
don't remember anything until I realized that I was
about 15 feet away from where it started rolling, flat
of my stomach. I looked over my left shoulder and the
tire was right beside my head. It ran over my arm just
below my shoulder. I also had large abrasions on both
knees, my right hand and a bruise about 12"x3"across
both hips where the door hit me. My arm was black and
blue for 2 weeks and a MRI showed torn tendons and
muscles in my shoulder. I have since had surgery and I
still have problems every day with my arm. I am also
being treated for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. We
contacted Chrysler and was told that it was my fault as
I should have not left it running. The service manager
where we bought it says the transmission did not go all
the way in to park and when I turned the key off and
took the forward momentum off the truck, backwards it
went. If I can ever get rid of it I will never have
another Chrysler product. We had just purchased the
truck in November of 2007 so we were too much upside
down in it. I have to drive it but I am terrified of it.

of my 2002 T/C burst into flames, made a sharp left turn
across traffic (all going faster than the posted
limit), came to rest in a grove of trees and immediately
burst into flames. There were 5 other passengers able to
get out only because one of them was able to break a
window. None of the doors or window switches worked. I
suffered 3 and 2 degree burns by the time they got to me
and than spent two and a half weeks in a burn unit in
Mobile. I'm suing Chrysler for poor design and also not
sending me a necessary part update for the area in
question. They say it's my fault regardless of what
following vehicle passengers saw and attested to under
oath.

You think that you have it bad in the US...try Chrysler
UK...We own a 2004 Chrysler Voyager (Town&Country in the
US) they cannot provide us with a front wing! The wings
are not being produced in Europe any more??, the insurer
cannot get them supplied from the US so my local dealer
has 6 cars off the road and another 9 waiting. When
manufactures start letting customers down, US cars are
getting a bad press. I have been looking at top end
Dodges but now getting a Jag XJ.

Hello. I very much enjoyed reading the content on your
website. I have been an auto repair tech since 1993 and
have been working at a Chrysler/Jeep dealer since
1999. Perhaps the overall problem is summed up by the
statement "Chrysler doesn't sweat the small stuff." In
my opinion, the products are "half-baked." They simply
don't get the details right. For the most part, the big
things (engines and transmissions) are OK. The engine
in your 300M, the 3.5L, is and has been a solid
performer. It's the little things, window motors,
rotors, outside temp, etc., that they refuse to
address.
We
purchased a slightly used 2007 Chrysler Pacifica (in
Sept 2007) for my wife. I loved the car at first. Then
I started to notice all the little glitches...I don't
even feel like typing them all out...but here's my
"favorite": on EVERY engine start, there is a clatter
noise for about 2 seconds. It is very similar to the
noise an engine makes when you change the oil and
filter, the clatter while the oil filter fills up and
the oil system pressurizes. This "problem" makes me
want to dump the car in a hurry. Inexcusable in a car
with 10,000 miles. I have noticed other 07 Pacificas
make the same sound, so I have given up without even
trying to remedy it. There is no technical bulletin. I
suppose I could call technical assistance, but honestly,
I don't have time to rebuild this vehicle. I can
imagine that if it was a customer's car, the answer
would be "cannot duplicate" or "normal operation."
Feel
free to email me.

NOTE: Not sure if Bob is still chasing this problem
and working on the suit.
Please contact me if I can help in any way. I own a 2002
PT cruiser. The web is full of stories about these
chrome coated wheels. They leaked air for years and were
an increasing inconvenience but in the last year the 2
front tires need to be filled every 2 days! They lose 15
lbs per day due to the bubbling from the corrosion that
prevents the tire to seal properly. The other day , I
lost a right tire after 50 miles of travel over a 7 hour
workday because it went flat after I filled it that
morning. I had Goodyear put on a new tire for $100. I
contacted the Chrysler Recall phone number
1-800-853-1403 to inquire if they are on the list and
when told no they said they have not had this problem.
Ask any reputable tire shop and you'll find this problem
in the 1996-2003 era is quite rampant. I was told to go
to my dealer so they could diagnose the problem. The
warranty manager said he wouldn't extend the warranty
and since it had 124,000 and I should have had it done
in the first 36,000. How was I to know that my slight
inconvenience would rust it's way to this magnitude of
decay. They obviously know they had a process that was
faulty. The following info is important to get the
government to pressure companies like D-C to issue a
recall. I encourage everyone that have a legitimate
safety problem to file a 2 minute form online at the
National Highway Transportation Safety. Once they
receive a lot of similar complaints, they will put
pressure on them because they won't issue one on their
own. The attached photo is one of the wheels. Notice
the peeling of chrome and the corrosion where it has
peeled away. I would like to begin a class action suit
so if you can post for others with this exact problem to
contact me, I would appreciate it. If I can do that, I
will set up a special e-mail strictly for that purpose.

Where do I begin...
Let's see, my mother bought me a 1999 Chrysler Cirrus
for me after I got my license when I was a senior in
high school. Personally, I wanted a Toyota or a Honda
(because those are GREAT cars) but I was just grateful
to have a car instead of having to ride the
"cheese-wagon" to and from school everyday. It was fine
for awhile, then the problems started.
First, the oil light kept coming on, we discovered it
had a leak. It was fixed, however, the oil light STILL
kept coming on. We assumed it was just an electrical
problem. Next, the windshield wiper fluid would not come
out. It was full. Another electrical problem. I had a
vehicular accident in which left the side of my car was
torn up. Later, the air conditioner broke down and with
black leather seats in the Louisiana summer heat, it's
not too fun.
Then, when I got my car checked for freon I was told
that my air conditioner was leaking and it would take
about $1,200 to fix it. Not happening.
And
finally, the peace du resistance, I noticed just today
that the battery light was on in my car. I took it to
AutoZone and was told that the battery was on the bottom
of my car. Wal-Mart couldn't do anything about it so,
once again, I took it to the same mechanic I went to
before and he told me that it was my altinator that was
out and because of that, my battery was literally
running on 12 volts. It's gonna take over $400 to fix it
and it will be, because I commute back and forth to
college every day.
I've
f*cking had it with this piece-of-crap excuse for an
automobile. Me (and my mom) are saving up to buy that
Toyota or Honda I've always wanted.
Thanks for reading my
rant!

Hi,
I
own a Dodge Ram 3500 truck that is a piece of crap. The
transmission in this "heavy duty" truck makes an
impressive amount of grinding noise when actuating the
clutch. Chrysler told a service rep at a 5 star dealer,
who told me that I was the first person to bring this up
to them. During the same call to the Star team
(Chrysler's engineering folks who aren't necessarily
mechanics, but have to defend the crap they design), the
also told the service rep that this noise was normal.
Of the 10 cars I've owned, 7 have had manual
transmissions. I KNOW what a bad throw out bearing
sounds like.
So,
we've been to the dealer for the minimum number of
visits required by the Idaho lemon law statutes. We are
going to arbitration next week with Chrysler through the
National Center for Dispute Settlement (NCDS). Any
advice?
This
will be the first and last Chrysler I ever buy.
Cheers,
Paul

2001
Jeep Grand Cherokee purchased Jun 01 brand new from
Carmax in Texas.
1200 miles that’s right 1 thousand 2 hundred miles, car
dies in the middle of the freeway all or most of the
dash lights are lit up and it won’t start up. Called
the 1800 number in the owners manual and they showed up
and towed to nearest Jeep dealer (which is about 400
miles from my home) one week later they call and said
it’s ready to be picked up, the camshaft sensor went out
and took the electronic ignition and the computer with
it, fixed under warranty, Bum a ride to the dealership
and pick up car, car runs rough but I want to get home
so I drive it home and take it to a local dealer the
next day.
Tommy Maunal Jeep is the dealer and they said they
couldn’t locate the problem, they said we could pick it
up and drive it or leave it there and they would look at
it some more. One month later they call and say it’s
ready to go, they wouldn’t say what they did but the
receipt had a engine gasket kit on it so I think they
had to pull the head for I’m guessing a valve problem,
fixed under warranty and anyway it’s running good so off
we go.
About 40,000 miles, wife goes out of town and the
passenger windows falls down, like into the door, turns
out to be a bad window regulator, about $230 and one
afternoon to install myself.
60,000 miles and the car won’t start on the first try
but usually on the second, take it to Tommy Manual and
they say it’s the fuel pump, $500 and some change and we
are back on the road next day. Sometime later we start
smelling gas after we fill up, not to surprising since
we are at a gas station and I see no leaks on the ground
when we get home but the check engine light is on, car
is running fine so we continue to drive but every time
we need to get it inspected I just disconnect the
battery to reset the engine light (it usually takes a
couple days to come back on) and were fine, still smell
gas. I inspect further and find gas on the bottom of
the tank so I drop the tank and find the big plastic nut
that holds the fuel pump assemble in is cross threaded
and the pump is not seated fully in the tank. The
dealer didn’t bother to drop the tank, like they said
they did, they just let it down far enough to reach up
and slip in a new pump, this is the only reason for not
seating the pump and ring properly that I can think of.
Oh well problem of engine light and gas smell fixed.
Shortly there after the drivers side window droops,
window regulator #2, $230 bucks and a couple hours of
work, I’m getting pretty good at these now, I’ll shorten
the story up and just say we have put 5 window
regulators in.
Engine starts to not start on first try again. I get a
new fuel pump assemble and install it myself. Problem
doesn’t go away, I had changed the fuel filter at about
60,000 miles with a Fram brand, I change it again with a
Purolator almost twice the price and the problem is
gone.
At about 100,000 miles the car starts to overheat when
in traffic, I discover the radiator fan isn’t working so
I change the fan relay, no luck I change the fan and it
solves the problem.
120,000 miles now the car dies when it is idling,
mileage and performance are fine, no miss, vary smooth
running (for a 4.0) but it will just die and start right
back up, not sure how I will attack this problem but one
thing is for sure this will be my last Jeep.
On a side note at 40,000 miles when I had to put new
tires on it I decided since it had a full size matching
wheel as a spare I would use that and buy 3 new tires of
the same kind, all was fine but I could hear a thumping
noise coming from the older but still new tire, I found
a small flat spot appearing on the tread, so I go to
Goodyear and ask about any kind of warranty and they
said I would have to go to the dealer since it came on
the car, Carmax said I would have to go to Goodyear,
(sound familiar) Goodyear looked at the tire and said I
must of slammed on the brakes and put a quarter size
flat spot in the middle of the tread, no kidding they
thought I was stupid enough to believe it.
The drivers seat is 6 inches lower than the rest from
use, and I’m under 200 lbs. The left taillight has gone
out more times than I can count. I know it’s a common
problem but the headlight lenses are getting pretty
foggy from age. It takes a couple cans of Freon to get
thru the summer anymore, nobody can find the leak.
It’s a tough vehicle but what a maintance nightmare.
There is a reason it was priced so far below the
competition, I looked into getting rid of it but after 7
years my trade-in value is about as much as a nice
dinner for the family, guess I’ll just keep it and
continue to fix things as I can and hope it dies a slow
death.
Thanks for letting me rant.

I bought a new 2007 Jeep
Wrangler X Unlimited 4 door, and it came from the dealer
with a Skyjacker 4" suspension lift, Pro Comp tires,
and Incubus wheel package. I was driving yesterday, and
made a turn into a development, and noticed that the
steering went 'soft'. I called Daimler/ Chrysler's
customer service dept(which I learned is out sourced to
India, and after several frustrating conversations with
"Mike", and "John", I finally got towing arranged to go
to the local dealer for inspection. I got a call later
from the service manager claiming that a bracket that
attaches the front differential and the steering
mechanism was broken and that they would not warranty it
due to the suspension lift. I have checked with 2
mechanics, and a body shop, and with Skyjacker, and all
tell me that there is absolutely no connection to the
lift and with the bracket being broken. The body shop
estimator called another Jeep dealer, and their service
manger said that they would fix it, but only if the
vehicle had been purchased at their dealership. I won't
even get into the debacle of trying to communicate with
customer service people in India! Another service
employee at the dealership(Jasper Jeep,in Jasper
Georgia) also said that I had to have hit something
hard, or driven the vehicle rough for this bracket to
break--neither of which is true. I asked the service
manager what percentage of all Jeeps out there that get
lifted. He estimated that 75-80 percent eventually do. I
then asked that , if that were true, then, if having a
lift causes this to occur, why was there no epidemic
proportion of occurrences with this problem. He had no
answer. To admit that lifting a vehicle causes such a
problem to occur is an admission that their product is
unfit for what most people purchase them for, lifting
and off-roading. So much for the 'toughness' of Jeeps,
and so much for relying on their warranty. They would
rather invent some reason to divert away from their
responsibility, than to protect their own reputation and
name by making good on the factory warranty. I will
never own another Chrysler product after owning 4 Jeep
Wranglers, 1 Dakota, 1 Durango and 2 Jeep Cherokees. My
son was in line for a Ram for his 17th birthday, but it
will not happen now. They saved a few hundred
dollars,(1800.00) but will lose tens of thousands,
because I will see to it that others know what kind of
company that they are, and point as many as I possibly
can away from anything that they are involved with.

My complaint is a saftey
issue with the hydrolic pistons on the hood and trunk. I
was loading groceries into my trunk today and as I
started to lean forward the trunk slammed down and hit
me on the top of my head. I started to pass out but I
recovered to find a 1' x 3" hemmatoma on the top of my
head. The trunk and hood have both done this before but
fortunatly I was not under them then. The hood and trunk
are quite heavy and could cause a fatality. I looked on
the recall list but I saw no mention of this problem.

I
have a 99 Chrysler 300m with 118,000 miles. We have
replaced the driver's side power window motor/regulator
3 times. Twice out of warranty. The dealership admits
to the part as a problem, but they just say sorry when
they charged us $400. I googled and got your website.
Dude, you rock!
I
saw your section on the power window problem. This
motivated me to fix it myself. As soon as loosened 1
screw on the power wind motor, the window immediately
began working again. I just saved a ton of money.
Other than that, I have luckily not had any other
problems with the car other than a nasty smell with down
shifting the autostick when slowing down rapidly.
Thanks again, for posting all the remedies.

Greetings,
First, I wanted to say how much I
appreciate your website :)
I just finished confirming, by reading on
the "Consumer Guide Automotive" website, the same thing
that we were told when we purchased the above mentioned
car - it was to have a 7 year/70,000 mile power train
warranty, in addition to the 3 year / 36,000 mile
bumper-to-bumper warranty. (Warped brake rotors weren't
covered though - surprise!) Now, I have been told by
not only several dealer repair shops, but also by
Chrysler themselves at their 800 number, that some 2002
Ms have the 7 year warranty and some don’t. They all
asked me for the VIN, and all came back saying that my
car is one of the 2002 Ms that does NOT have it - the
car's warranty was 3 year / 36,000 miles ONLY. (We
purchased the car new in May of 2002, and it blew a head
gasket in April of 2004 at 17,000 miles!! They did
repair that.) When I asked WHY some cars had the 7 year
warranty honored, and others did not, the jerk I spoke
with at Chrysler refused to say anything further - he
told me to write a letter to their P.O. box, and refused
to give me their physical address. This is one of the
worst cases of massive fraud and deception I have ever
seen.
Could you please advise me where I could
go to get legal help for this problem? (I live in the
Seattle, Washington area.) Would you by chance have the
phone number for the Attorney General of the state of
Michigan, where Chrysler is located? I would surely
appeciate any help you could provide for me! (And feel
free to publish my name and contact info if you want.)

I HAVE A 2006 CHRYSLER
TOWN AND COUNTRY
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK WHEN I
STARTED NOTICING THAT MY FRONT BRAKES WERE GRINDING AND
SQUEAKING VERY LOUDLY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY USUAL
MECHANIC TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND FOUND THAT MY PADS
WERE GONE, METAL TO METAL WITH THE ROTORS. THERE WAS
ONLY 18, 000 MILES ON THE CAR AT THE TIME AND FAILURE OF
THE BRAKES WAS PREMATURE. MY MECHANIC WAS SHOCKED THAT A
VIRTUALLY NEW CAR HAD SUCH SEVERE BRAKE EROSION. I NEVER
HAD AN INDICATOR TO LET ME KNOW THAT THE BRAKES WERE
GOING BAD. FRONT AND REAR BRAKES WERE REPLACED AND THE
FRONT ROTORS WERE REPLACED. A TOTAL OF $600. ABOUT A
YEAR LATER AT 38,000 MILES THE SAME THING HAPPENED ALL
OVER AGAIN WITHIN SIX MONTHS OF HAVING THE BRAKES
CHECKED BY MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE BRAKES LOOKED
LIKE NEW. AND NOW TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY, MY CHECK
ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. AND GUESS WHAT??!!! IT IS NO LONGER
CONVERED UNDER WARRANTY!!! OF COURSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CHRYSLER SUCKS AND THEY
SHOULD GO OUT OF BUSINESS!!!! I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER
GM, CHRYSLER OR FORD VEHICLE NO MATTER WHAT NAME THEY GO
UNDER THE VEHICLES ARE STILL BADLY CONSTRUCTED.

MY COMMENT - May 2009:
How things have changed in such a short time!
Let's hope that Chrysler gets "bought" by GM then gets
squashed by GM. I kept telling friends not to purchase
that Chrysler junk, but they insisted. I get tired of
hearing about all the problems with their junk. Even
their highly publicized Hemi engine is a piece of junk.
And, don't get me started on Cummins crap. Yet, people
remain stupid enough to purchase that crap.
I
wish they would just go away forever.

Hi,
Thu 11/27/2008 6:18 AM - info
I bought a low mileage (33,000) jeep
cherokee classic in 2003. My two close friends are
mopar nuts but apparently love working on their cars....
I don't. They recommended this vehicle as I was told
that the 4.0L engine was one of chryslers best. So far,
the engine is smooth but it's surrounded by other lame
parts. After 5 years and 50,000 mostly highway miles
with oil changes every 3000 miles, I have had to
replace two sets of front rotors and resurface them
every year that they weren't being replaced. Two
mechanics (beyond my mopar friends) have told me about
the poorly designed braking system that has the fronts
take 95% of the vehicles weight. ( The back brakes need
to be adjusted at least twice a year and don't wear as
the front takes the load.) ..... The paint is poor and
there are ripples in the rear quarters ( the vehicle was
never hit. ) The front speakers in the door go on and
off randomly. The seats have rips in the sides ( I am
only 150 lbs ). The 'service engine' light came on
twice over the years with the problem being bad
sensors. ... I would like to say this stuff is normal
for a vehicle with 83,000 miles on it until last week
when the differential blew out. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.
.... I've had two other cars in my life ( gm & honda )
that went over 100,000 miles with no major problems
beyond regular standard maintenance of tires, brakes,
fluids or a radiator hose. I may push this Jeep
vehicle thru the local Chrysler/Jeep dealers window and
leave it there

I
bought a new 1998 Dodge Dakota. Loved it for awhile.
First problem came under warranty. All dash instruments
went heywire. They fixed it no prob. A "Cluster Loom"
replacement. Now, my rotors are warped & remain so.
Can't stop that from happening shortly after replaceing
them. Next was the headlight switch. Replaced that. Then
my speed sensor died. Next was my paints clear coat
dying on my cab roof (repainted at my expense for
$400.00 +). Now the hood is going the same route. My
BIGGEST problem for the past few months is my engine. It
keeps dying and backfiring at intervals. I've had it in
FOUR garages including a Dodge dealership, but NO ONE
can fix it. In fact, they say they don't see any issues
I claim to have. I'm 60 yrs old. In my ENTIRE adult
driving life I have NEVER owned a car that couldn't be
fixed. So, what the hell do I do now? I've spent about
$2,000.00 on this POS in the last year and a half.

name is Oscar and I'm currently a jeep commander owner
that is having issues with Chrysler and getting my
vehicle considered a lemon. I was curious as to how
often your website is updated, I will explain why. I'm

making this jeep a moving billboard about how much
Chrysler sucks. I will be driving through Alaska,
Canada, Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, Nevada,

Georgia, South Carolina, and finally North Carolina ,
and I'm trying to get as much attention as possible. Of
course I would like you to post some pictures on your

website, with your permission of course. Please let me
know if this would be possible and if you would approve
of your website being advertised.

At 30,000 miles my 2006 Town & Country needed new brake
pads and rotors in the front and new brake shoes in the
back at a cost of over $700.00. No warranty coverage as
these are "wearables."
Today, at less than 50,000 miles, it cost me $420.00 to
get a Vermont Safety Inspection sticker. The gas filler
pipe was leaking (who ever heard of that?) and an airbag
sensor had failed. Oh, and according to my long-time and
well-trusted mechanic, the front pads are "...showing
some wear, so let's keep an eye on them."
Last month at the same garage my 10 year old Toyota with
140,000 miles on it passed inspection with no problems.
With one barke job at around 80,000 miles, by the way.
Wearables my butt!
This car is a piece of junk and it won't be long before
its gone.

I am writing to voice my
dissatisfaction with my 2005 Chrysler Town and Country,
and my dissatisfaction with a very rude Sales Manager at
Brighton Chrysler and Jeep.
Approximately one week
ago, I called Chrysler customer service to file a
complaint regarding the numerous problems with my van.
(Currently the van has 65,000 miles.) Those complaints
include extensive corrosion on the back hatch; airbag
light illuminated; engine light illuminated (for the
third time – required new EGR valve and new O2 sensor in
2008); broken back sliding door; front driver seat
falling apart; struts on back hatch replaced in May 2008
due to extensive corrosion of the struts; turn signal
switch replaced.
On Thursday, January 8,
2009, I went into my salesman at Brighton Chrysler. His
name is Mike R and he is the Sales Manager. I informed
him of my multiple problems and asked if there was a
number I could call at Chrysler to discuss the issues
with the van, especially the illuminated airbag light,
which is my most current problem with the van. I voiced
my concern about the airbag light as I read that my
airbags are disabled when the light is illuminated. He
informed me that I could call whoever I wanted but that
Chrysler will do nothing to help me. He stated that he
was going to be upfront with me about Chrysler. He said
he has customers with 38,000 miles on their car and
their cars are falling apart, and Chrysler will do
nothing to help them. However, he told me that he would
call the service center about my airbag light given that
there was a recall on the 2005 Town and Country airbag
system, and he would call the collision center and ask
about the rust on the back hatch (I had to have the back
hatch replaced due to an accident in approximately July
2005).
I did not hear back from
Mr. R that day, so I called him the following day. He
was a bit short with me and said he had not heard back
from anyone yet. I again voiced my concern about the
airbag system being disabled and felt it needed to be
fixed ASAP. He assured me he would call me back as soon
as he heard back from his service center.
Today is Wednesday,
January 14th. I still had not received a call
from Mr. R. At approximately 12:45 p.m. I called him at
Brighton Chrysler. I asked him if he had heard back
from anyone regarding my airbag system recall and/or
rusted back hatch. He abruptly told me that there was
no recall on my airbag system and the back hatch was a
used back hatch with no warranty. I asked him if the
airbag recall was repaired back in May 2008 when I had
the van in for repairs. He then said to me: “Call
service, I am done with this, OK.” He then hung up the
telephone!! I couldn’t believe it. I was not rude, nor
was I pushy about my issues. A grown man, THE SALES
MANAGER, hung up on me!!
To say the least, I am
appalled at this behavior. I am a business owner and
can’t imagine treating anyone as I was treated by Mr.
R.
Furthermore, I find it
inexcusable that he neglected to call me back about my
airbag system. I guess it’s a good thing I haven’t
been in an accident!
I will never return to
Brighton Chrysler. In addition, I think that given
Chryslers current economic status, they would make sure
employees, especially a Sales Manager, treat their
customers with courtesy and respect.

Bought a 2006 Dodge Ram Cummins.
Converted it to run on refined vegetable oil in addition
to the standard diesel.
Have fully maintained the vehicle from the beginning.
About six weeks ago, had a major engine
malfunction....an intake valve 'dropped' and struck the
cylinder (for those of you who don't know..the intake
valve is NEVER in the 'down' position on the upswing of
the piston).
Ruined the piston, shot some of the broken and bent
valve up into the head and ruined that, and then sent
some through the turbo. All told, about ten grand in
damages.
The dealership "said" they called their Dodge rep, told
him about the damages and the alternative fuel. And
without seeing or any further research, Dodge refused to
honor the warranty.
They've provided ZERO evidence that the alternative fuel
caused the damage, or that it even COULD cause it.
Now the dealership is saying that they're 'in the
middle'...and that the lack of coverage under warranty
is up to Dodge, not them. And they're demanding
payment, won't release the truck, and are threatening to
auction it off to recover what costs they can...which
obviously isn't anything.

Sean & Jess 2001 Chrysler Sebring with ~98k mi.
I
need to make this quick because I have my business to
run, but I just came in from adding transmission fluid
in the 5 degree weather, so I need to vent our story.
After I owned a 98 and an 01 Dakota my now wife thought
she was being smart and following my advice by
purchasing a 2001 Sebring Sedan. It was her first
purchase and she bought it new. Both of us bought into
the Chrysler Renaissance of the 1990’s.
I
have been the custodian of the vehicle’s care since 2005
with ~60k mi.
As you will see the total of repairs is not extravagant,
but at least two of these failures could have been
catastrophic had they not happened in the driveway. We
have toyed with replacing this vehicle several times,
but due to the reputation of Chryslers and especially
the 2.7L engine it has been worthless for several years.
My frustration is that most of these failures are due to
use of extremely cheap parts and poor engineering. The
Design (especially mechanically) may have just been too
ambitious, but the areas that the saved money are
potentially huge safety concerns. There have been
precious few recalls on this vehicle an none dealing
with any of the issues I have had. I suppose they will
only move if the death toll forces the government to
make them do it. We are now in a financial position
where we must make this car last as long as possible,
but it seems like there is something new every day. In
contrast my vehicle is a 2001 Toyota 4Runner with easily
twice as many mechanical components (and safety
features). It runs awesome with 110k mi. No creaks
groans or rattles. Toyota has recalled these vehicles at
times and guess what, they fixed the problems they
found, voluntarily!
Tire rod end: 65k mi – “My wheel fell off,” as my wife
puts it. The left tie rod end separated as she was
backing out of the driveway causing the tires to point
at each other. I came home an attempted to replace the
tie rod. Turns out the inner cannot be separated from
the steering rack, so we ended up having it towed to my
work (I was working at a Toyota
Dealership) and a technician replaced the both tie rods
and the steering rack when he could get to it on his
spare time. Inspecting the failure revealed that the
joint had completely lost it grease long ago (same with
the ball joints). There are no zirc fittings on these
parts as they are intended to be “permanently” greased.
Aftermarket parts have these fittings because this a
known flaw.
Total: $500
Oil Pressure Light: 65k mi – The “Oil Pressure” light
began to come on at idle or when coasting. A little
research found the oil pressure was fine, but the
pressure sensor was faulty. I replaced it on a Saturday
using the lift at work. The part was less than $15, but
it is located on the back of the engine and behind the
exhaust. Upon removing the sensor I found that it was
actually leaking oil through the sensor itself. One year
after replacing it the light came on again. I replaced
it again in my driveway.
Total: $30 plus many busted knuckles.
Right Upper Ball joint: 80k mi – “My other wheel fell
off.” Again backing out of the drive way the right front
wheel went up into the wheel well after the upper ball
joint separated. Another tow bill (extra because it was
stuck in our driveway’s snow bank). It was making a ton
of racket, but the noise was miss-diagnosed as “sway bar
bushings (this is a common, but non-life-threatening
problem on Toyotas).”
Total: ~$300 and a case of beer.
Left Upper Ball Joint: 90k mi – The other side began
making noise and I had it repaired at an excellent local
shop.
Total: $175
Crankshaft Position Sensor 95k mi – The “Check engine
light” came on and since I now own an On-Site oil change
business I purchased a code reader. I diagnose and
replaced both the crankshaft and camshaft position
sensors.
Total: $90 plus $100 for the reader
Right rear upper strut bracket 97k mi – “Ice rattling”
We began to hear a horrible rattling sound in the right
rear. I pulled back the trunk carpet and found the strut
was completely free from its mount. Removing the spring
and strut revealed that the bracket that holds
everything together was made of aluminum and had
literally shattered into 12 pieces. It was one of those
while I am in here, but I replaced the struts, mounts
and brackets on both sides (it was 5 degrees).
Interestingly enough when I went to the local Dodge
parts (who have always been great) counter they stocked
three of them and they are now an improved part made of
steel. I looked and could not find so much as a TSB on
this! The bracket itself was $18.
Total: $ 180 plus rented a spring
compressor from Advance
Auto
Transmission Clamps 98k mi – This is today’s fun. Over
the last week we have been finding tranny fluid in
different places and finally figured out it was the
Chrysler. I originally thought it was the pan gasket
(which may be leaking), but this morning after wrestling
with the air box to get it out of the way I can clearly
see fluid coming out of the lines going to the
transmission and the transmission cooler on the
radiator. This one should be cheap to fix, but
incredibly frustrating.
These lines are held on with cheap spring clamps! All
four ends are leaking. I haven’t fixed it yet, but the
clamps should be cheap (but apparently too expensive for
Chrysler to use the right ones).
Total: $30 (clamps plus 8.9 quarts of
trans fluid)
Quickies
The blower fan “failed” twice under
extended warranty and then I bought another one to
replace it a third time. When I removed the fan I found
lint was causing it to run out of balance. I took the
blower back.
The locking mechanisms and windows are
beginning to make noises
The left rear speaker hasn’t worked in
years.
It goes through about 2 quarts of oil
between changes. ( I am hoping to only have to replace
the pan gasket).
I am sure there is more that I can’t
think of, but this should be a good list for now.

I
have noted that a message from galey d, reporting about
the problems with her car.
I
drive a grand voyager, death trap too.
It
really is too long to go into, but the positive note,
that over 2,500.00 gbp later and independant diagnostics
engineer found the reason that my car kept stopping.
If
your car is diesel and the glow plug light comes on as
the engine dies, please have the "electronic governor"
checked, it is to do with the fuel supply, it may be
called something else where you live. But after all the
time, money and near death experiences whilst the engine
dies, it cost just 350.00 gbp.
I
really hope it can be of use to you.
Chrysler needs to brought down. I am still spending
money every year, and i can never get rid of it, as i
spent in total over £9000.00 gbp,( dealer and repair
fees ) and it only cost £7,000.00 gbp.

Luck

1. 1989 Plymouth Sundance Coupe.
I
purchased this while in the US Navy. Our ship had just
returned from a 6-month deployment and I was itching to
drive a car. My previous car, a 1980 VW Dasher, was
offed in a car accident before my deployement. I put
the proceeds into a bank so I'd have money for a new
car. Why oh why did I walk into McCune
Chrysler-Plymouth and pick out the first car I saw? A
silver Sundance coupe, 4cyl, auto tranny, am-fm stereo
cassette, no air (I lived in California). It was fine
since all I ever did was drive it for fun, as I lived on
the base and didn't have to commute. For 2 years, I
drove it for fun and in spite of some interior quality
problems (the console was made from extremely flimsy
plastic), I liked the car. The hatch didn't like to
close and I had some issues with peeling
weatherstripping. Oh, and I orded floor mats which took
them three months to get. Whenever I asked about them,
I got such an attitude from the jerk at the front desk.
Found out they had been sitting at the counter all that
time. I hope McCune has gone bankrupt
I got out
of the Navy in 1992 and drove the car cross-country from
San Diego back to my hometown of Philadelphia, PA. My
uncle drove back with me. The car behaved like a champ,
even though the stereo speakers started acting up, and
the factory cassette started munching on my tapes.
When I got
a job later that year which required a daily commute 52
miles, round trip, the car began to implode on me. In
less than a year, in no particular order:
Replaced
brakes three times.
Tripod on
the axle broke, causing the front wheels to wobble
horribly.
Transmission died.
Alternator
died - twice.
Replaced
struts
Front
wheels went constantly out of alignment
Side
windows fell out of tracks whenever I had to roll them
up.
Aftermarket
sunroof developed leaks.
As long as
you handled this car with kid gloves, there was no
problem. To ask it to perform a daily commute was like
asking Yul Brynner if he wanted a haircut. Couldn't be
done.
In 1994,
after I replaced the tires, brakes and got the wheels
aligned AGAIN, I drove to the market to get my grandma
some ice cream. It was hot and humid out, so I rolled
down the windows, which promptly fell out of their
tracks - both of them at the same time. That was it.
The very next day I took the Sundance to a C-P
dealership in Norristown PA and traded it in for
a.........
2. 1995 Plymouth Neon Sport Sedan
Since I
drove mainly for commuting purposes, I naively leased
the car, for less than my monthly payments were on the
Sundance. It was the stupidest thing I ever did. I had
an option to trade after the lease was up, but by then
the car was so broke that I ended up buying it and
getting my bank to refinance it. So I ended up paying
for this car for almost nine years. Youth is the time
for stupidity - get it out of the way.
I thought
then that my flame red Neon was an improvement over the
Sundance. Better-looking, better-handling, more
powerful engine, air conditioning, power door locks,
cruise control, tilt wheel - it may as well have been a
Mercedes. Handled like a dream. I didn't even mind the
loud engine or the hard plastic interior panels - it was
an economy car, right? Nitpicks. But within two years?
Brakes
replaced three times (first time under warranty)
Brake
rotors replaced twice
Air
conditioning seized up (I was laid off at the time and
couldn't afford the $900 required to repair it.
Engine oil
leaks
Clanking
noise from rear suspension
Power door
locks failed - the fuses kept burning out because of the
alarm system I had to put in the car after it got robbed
by the lowlife thief simply using a coat hanger to pry
open the frameless glass to get to the lock.
Stereo
would cut off and on with a mind of its own.
Fuel
injector problems (one of my brother's friends would fix
for me on the cheap)
Once again,
constant alignment problems
Replaced
alternator twice
Water-based
paint job started to pit and to peel.
What was
funny was that at least four times I ran into people who
owned Neons and they always asked ME if I had problems
with it! LOL, my cousin and her BF bought a used one,
ignoring my advice until their AC seized the day after
their warranty expired.
After I
finally paid it off, the alternator died - AGAIN. I
left it in the parking spot until the City of
Philadelphia towed it 'cause my registration expired.
They wanted $300. I told them to go and f**k themselves
- I was happy to get rid of the car.
Thank
heavens for your website - I only wished that I had
found it sooner, I'd be able to get in on one of the
lawsuits. I had wanted to earlier, but I was finishing
college and about to start a new job. At the time, it
seemed like unnecessary drama. But thanks for the
opportunity to vent. All I can do now is tell people
not to buy Chrysler products. So far, most people have
either listened to me, or told me that they were quite
aware of Chrysler's reputation and wouldn't give their
cars a second look..
Yours
Truly

1.
I bought an extended
warranty via direct mail from Chrysler Warranty and
Chrysler is not willing to honor it.
2.
My Jeep Liberty has only
40,885 miles on it and the rear power window on the
driver’s side no longer works at all.
3.
I have been getting the
run-around from the Customer Assistance Center
Since I bought an
extended warranty on 11/30/07, I figured I would call
the Customer Assistance Center to see if I could get my
window fixed. The customer service representative,
Shelby, insisted that I do not have a warranty. She
then demanded that I fax over my bank statement with
proof of payment for my warranty and the address where I
mailed my payment. I complied.
When I first called
Customer Assistance, Shelby told me that it appeared
that the address I read off to her was for the Chrysler
Corporation itself. When she called me back a few
minutes later to tell me to fax her the information, her
story changed. Now, she was “researching” what that
address was.
After faxing in my
information, another representative, Sarah, told me that
my warranty did not exist and that there was “nothing”
she could do about it. I told her that was not good
enough. She placed me on hold, supposedly so that she
could talk to her “supervisor” to see if there was
anything else she could do. She then got back on the
line and told me that I should go to Chrysler to get my
car repaired, pay up front for the charges and then send
in my receipt. But, she said, they will NOT reimburse me
for the entire amount and couldn’t even tell me how much
they would reimburse!
First, I was ripped off
with a bogus warranty, and now, Chrysler won’t even fix
a defect.

I was doing a
random google search for "chrysler 300m" and found your
site. I can totally agree with you that Daimler
Chrysler's dealership service is a "joke" However I own
2 Chrysler's. My first car I ever bought with my own
money fresh into my junior year of high school was a
Chrysler. Although many years before Chrysler was bought
out. 1991 Chrysler Lebaron convertable. I have dumped so
much money into this car and no one can understand why.
The only things that have held up would have to be the
interior. struts,cv joints, engine,tranny,alt,rad,wheel
bearings, rods, rotors, and etc have all been rebuilt and
or replaced. It's a true lemon, but I love it (first car
and all.) In 2000 I bought a 300m. I loved the way the
car looked inside and out. It was also Chrysler
flagship. I still own it to this day. Every single
window motor failed shortly after the purchase. The
dealer replaced them serveral times before the problem
went away. Outside of that, I haven't had any real
problems with the car. Obviously now the warranty is up
and the car is paid off. Although I'm not part of the
www.300mclub.org
I have done a bunch of aftermarket mods to the vehicle.
And it has been very reliable for me. I guess you could
say I have always been a fan of Chrysler and after
reading the stories from your supporters, I'm counting
myself lucky. I was recently planning on purchasing a
Dodge Charger, Not so much now. People will always tell
you things like stop being a crybaby and etc, until it
happens to them. I still love the two Chrysler's I own,
but I don't think I'll be making anymore purchases from
Chrysler. Thanks for posting such a helpful page.

I
Worked for chrysler for over 12 years, starting out as a
lot boy up to a parts/service manager. In 1988 I traded
my 1983 Toyota 4-runner in on a brand new Dodge Dakota
4x4. What a mistake, the front c.v shaft came off 2
times at the flange and I lost the passenger front wheel
each time. The temp contol cable came off at 2 month old
and then oil light started coming on when shifting
(manual) The trucks oil pressure was master guaged, and
indeed was low in oil pressure. The engine was tore down
and pump, crank were replaced, this did not fix it. I
was 20 years old then, paying 488.00 per month at 18-1/4
percent intrest to have my vehicle in the shop for weeks
at a time! What a crock, believe me they don't treat
their employees any better! For years I seen countless
people and good people for sure have to deal with shoddy
Chrysler. They hide recalls, by calling alot of them
tsb's and slight maintenance issues. Their transmissions
had so many updates on them, and still didn't work. They
left alot of people working in dealers, on the hook for
problems that had existed for years! In the nineties,
there was a family killed in a mini van on the 401 near
Toronto. It was found that the rear liftgate on their
Caravan was a faulty design and had prematurely opened,
throwing four children to their deaths! The story had
alot of media exposure and the next week the phones
where lit up by concerned customers. Chysler told us,
that there was nothing wrong with the liftgates and to
tell the public that the media was exagerating. About a
month later a recall was issued, and we added some cheap
piece, to re-inforce the latch. Chrysler left all their
employees out to dry once again. I quit Chrysler shortly
after and went to work for Ford. I couldn't believe the
difference between the two, the professionalism of the
district managers and support staff at Ford was a vast
improvement over what I had experienced over 12 years.
Today, I see Chryslers, and feel sorry for the people, I
think they actually believe those crap commercials of
theirs. What a joke, if they spent half the money on
improving quality as they do on commercials they might
have a product close to the others! I will never own
another Chrysler, ever!!!

fly
by wire or die by wire did you know when you leave your
windows down in a damp area many times a crysler
throttle will swell up and stick ,crysler cheap crap
electronic throttle swells and becomes stuck full
throttle , you can always replace it with another crapy
one that may last a few months longer or just throw away
the whole car its safer

I'm a D-C Quality Victim Too, and this is my story.
Three years ago I bought a 2000 Chrysler Concorde with
about 88,000 miles on it. I loved the car because the
original owner had opted for all the little niceties on
it - sunroof, leather interior, dual power seats,
auto-dimming mirror, 17" wheels, window tint, etc. I
didn't have to go hunt for a V6-equipped car that was
also pleasant and comfortable. The only thing I had to
replace immediately was a cracked windshield (which I
subtracted from the price I paid) and worn out weather
seals around the doors.
I
took zealous care of this car, always keeping it clean
and never driving it hard, and had it serviced regularly
at a AAA certified shop with good reputation.
Here are all the nonsensical things that failed - and
kept on failing
-
for no apparent reason.
*
Weather strips around the doors - I had those replaced
when I bought the car, and they were brand new parts
from Chrysler. Within 2 years these new rubber pieces
were shrunk and stiff and weathered, and didn't fit
around the door frame properly anymore. On any other car
this particular part will probably outlive the car
itself. I guess Chrysler doesn't believe in getting
their rubber from the same place as the rest of the
world.
*
Headlight seals - the rubber seals around the headlight
assembly get shrunk and pop out of their place and look
like crap, not to mention they don't do that thing they
are named for (sealing). Virtually every Concorde / 300
/ LHS I've seen has this problem.
*
Power seat - the seat itself can be adjusted 4 ways for
height - the front goes up and down, and so does the
rear. Of all the things to break, the motor responsible
for moving the rear portion up and down broke, so the
seat was stuck at some ridiculous angle unless you were
content with sitting like a bus driver.
*
Cruise control - OK, so I pop the hood to inspect things
and I notice the vacuum tubing for the cruise is old and
not flexible and cracked and in general very much not
keeping the "vacuum" system as such. I replaced the
tubing, and my cruise worked fine... for 6 months. When
I inspected the system, it looked just like last time! I
think the geniuses at Chrysler didn't think that having
the lines run where the engine dumps a lot of heat on
them was a bad idea. So much for fixing that again...
*
A/C - so my A/C stopped working. I had the system
refilled with refrigerant, and I was told that there
were no leaks (the guys put a dye in it to see where, if
anywhere, it might leak). This worked just awesomely for
my trip to Florida for 2 weeks, but by next summer I was
getting hot air blown in my face again. On top of
this..
*
...the belt that runs the A/C compressor snapped one
day. Luckily this belt is not responsible for running
anything else, so I pulled it from under the car and
tossed it aside, never to bother again. (Got tired of
fixing the A/C anyway, see above.)
*
Power windows. I don't even remember how many of these
I've had fixed. Finally I gave up when once, after I
shut the driver's door somewhat hard, my driver side
window popped out of its groove and could never be
opened again without sticking out an inch from the car.
The passenger side window, while surviving to this day,
would never work reliably - about 50% of the time it
works every time.
*
Rear seat air vents - the plastic-and-foam guide inside
the vent control for the rear seat (directs air up or
down) got worn out even though no one ever used it! This
I fixed myself with some effort and never touched it
again.
OK, these two are good ones, there's no reason on earth
for these to break. I mean, on any other car.
*
There is a decorative, curved strip that is at the end
of the hood, where the hood meets the windshield. It is
there for looks (and it does look good), and attached
with metal braces underneath, to the hood. I noticed
that when I would drive above about 65, one corner of
this piece would catch the wind the flip up and down
slightly, although this didn't happen all the time. One
night on my way home, as I was accelerating and going
maybe 35-40, the piece started flapping wildly and in
about 10 seconds just flew off and over the car, never
to be seen again. Again, I've seen a lot of Concordes
with it missing around town. Now I know what happened.
*
The sunroof of the car has a plastic, spring-loaded,
C-shaped bar that comes up when the sunroof retracts, to
keep the wind from really getting into the cabin. This
bar is not under any stress, as the sunroof simply
slides over it when it closes, pushing and keeping it
down. Well, this wonderfully engineered piece snapped
broken one day for no apparent reason... just plastic
fatigue, I guess, but come on, how often does something
that just sits there break?
And for the kicker... I was driving a friend to the
airport one day, on a medium-length drive (Knoxville to
Nashville, TN) and my car started losing power and
jolting back and forth like it had a seizure, all the
while making awful knocking noises. Long story short,
next day I was told that I had a bad bearing on the
crankshaft, which necessitates an extremely costly
repair or a new engine, both of which would have pretty
much been, considering all of the above, a black hole
for money.
At this point I had had the car for about 2 years and
put about 15,000 miles on it since the purchase date. My
Concorde is effectively dead at 103,000 miles despite
being taken good care of, while shedding off parts on
the way.
Thank you, Chrysler, for providing me with such great
transportation.
